87 Year-Old Man Beaten & Robbed by 4 Punks

Well, here is a story with video.

Bob Wenzel once wrote on Urban Primitives:

“Put any kid into a situation where the public education resembles a zoo as seen, as HL Mencken might have said, from the inside of the cages, coupled with the barring of such a kid from all entry level job positions [via minimum wage laws] outside of illegally selling dope, and you are bound to get a very frustrated kid. Create a community of such kids and you get to see the eruption of blind fury from time to time. Unfortunately, these frustrated government created[-ed] urban primitives don’t understand the nature of the oppression they face.”

Is that what these four punks were responding to?  Who knows.  They are punks.  What I am seeing by the media is giving each group more arsenal for irrational violence.  Stories about how Wall Street steals billions from Main Street or about how the country is 200 trillion in debt and how FDR’s New Deal programs are bankrupt and drying up make the social network of programs like Social Security, Medicare, and others.  Young kids today feel as though the country and perhaps the adults of this country have turned against them, leaving room for immigration, illegal and otherwise, to flourish.  I mean if the adults born to this country can’t behave correctly, make money, create ethical careers, and set examples for young people, then why not let the adults from other countries set those crucial models.

Is this the reason why the four kids mugged a nearly 90 year old man?  Who knows?  Is it because these kids have lost hope?  I don’t know.  The evidence shows otherwise.  The evidence shows that the economy is in a boom.  This graph via Robert Wenzel shows that employment trends haven’t been this good in the last 20 years:

Okay, so it’s getting harder to point to economics as the casus belli against oldsters.  Jobs are aplenty.  I visited another state this past year and found that jobs were aplenty.  Since returning to California I’ve found that starting pay is frequently $9/hour.  Hardly enough in today’s economy, but we must start somewhere.

If it’s not in the pursuit of satisfying some version of social justice, then what is it?  What causes four young punks to assault an 87 year-old man?

Anyway, here is the story.

An 87-year-old man was critically injured after being robbed and assaulted while out for his morning walk near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, police said Saturday.

Pedestrians called 911 after finding the elderly victim lying on the ground on West Drive north of Salvia Canyon Road just after 5 a.m. on Friday, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

So let me get this straight.  An 87-year old man was walking at 5am and four punks mugged him for his credit cards, ATM cards, and cash?  What losers.  We learn what kind of injury he sustained.

The victim had sustained major head trauma and remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition the following day.

His pouch, which contained money and personal identification cards, was taken during the robbery.

Less than 30 minutes after the robbery, four people were caught on video at a Pasadena gas station trying to use the victim’s credit card, a police news release stated.

The report of the surveillance video does not give us the location.  Just that they’re caught on camera.

“Based on the surveillance footage, police released photos of four people — three males and a female — who they were searching for in connection with the incident.”

Oh, how is that for precision description “. . . photos of four people–three males and a female . . . .”  It goes on.

“Additionally, investigators were looking for their vehicle, described as a black 2003-2004 Honda Accord with a sunroof.”

Then it finished with the usual if “anyone who can identify the four people . . .” to please call Detective Tim Bundy.

“Authorities were asking anyone who can identify the four people in the photos to call Pasadena police Det. Tim Bundy at 626-744-3953, Sgt. Mike Bugh at 626-744-4525, or police dispatch at 626-744-4241.

Anonymous tips can be left by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.”
