Food in the U.S. is cheap compared to other countries.  So is gas.  In 1964, gas was $.25 a gallon.  That was when a quarter was pure silver, one-quarter silver.  A quarter ounce of silver today is around $5, but we’re not paying $5 a gallon today.  Gas prices in Los Angeles are around $3.00.
